No explanation needed here. Disco, funk, and soul vibes all night with the legendary DJ Sheila E from Seattle!

Learn about DJ Sheila E:

Sheila has nearly done it all in the local (Seattle) music scene.
Her career in the music industry spans over forty years, featuring, starting a record label, owning two nightclubs, managing recording artists, DJ’ing, radio DJ, teaching college, and simply her love of playing music.

Growing up she would beg her older brother and sister to let her “play the records and tapes” at their house parties. Switching between a record player and a cassette meant timing the phono/tape switch on the stereo receiver was crucial into segue songs together without dead air.

Her first DJ gig came as a senior at her high school spring
dance in 1978. The following year she persuaded new club
owners at the Spectrum nightclub in Federal Way, that she can DJ “as good as any”, and landed her first job in the all-teen nightclub.

Later, Sheila turned down an offer at Chicago’s “Julianna’s” nightclub as a lighting technician, instead taking an unpaid internship at local urban radio station KYAC. That lead to an on-air shift that launched her to her first local “celebrity” status.

The next five years Sheila moved quickly between radio, nightclubs, parties and then the record industry. In 1985 she co-founded NASTYMIX Records, a local rap/dance music record label. The fledgling label landed onto the national scene innocently with their hit artist SIR MIX A LOT. Together, they climbed the charts in 1987 with his quirky hit “Square Dance Rap”, which fueled the label’s rapid growth. Two years later, the label had it’s first GOLD (500,000 units) album to its credit. The company grew to a dozen artists, eighteen employees and over two and one half million record sales by 1990.

By the end of 2018, she had DJ’d scores of parties, including weddings, schools, fraternities sororities, corporate events, and nightclubs. At the Seattle Sheraton she opened for the BEACH BOYS. Sheila has played in nearly every hotel ballroom in Seattle. She kept the beat under the swimming fish at the Seattle Aquarium, and mixed under the stars in the middle of the Pacific Science Center. She’s dj’d on boat cruises with vinyl on turntables without skipping a beat!

In 1993 she brought the gregarious RUPAUL to Seattle to her first pop up nightclub, Zorba Foos. Sheila’s second nightclub (Area 51) brought late-night hip-hop to Pioneer Square in 1997. Even while owning a nightclub, promoting parties, and running a record label, Sheila still found time to play a party or wedding reception! Her club venues include the Paragon, Emerald Queen Casino Edgewater Inn, Lizzard Lounge, Phantom, Pahrumps, Aristocrats, amongst others in town.

DJ Sheila E has more than extensive experience in the music scene. She has unique grace, style, personality, music knowledge, and a presence that is rare in this arena.
